The past few months have been quiet for the campaign but we have still been busy. Westminster has been rather distracted since the new year, but this has given us the opportunity to plan out our campaign for the coming months, both in Parliament and across the whole UK.
Over the past years we’ve had some major successes, including spurring the creation of the APPG on Listed Buildings; the first time that owners have had a direct line of communication with legislators. We’ve received answers from government departments, as well as pressuring the planning minister to open a dialogue on VAT. Our message has been received by government but we have yet to see any real action. In the coming year that will be our goal.
In 2019 we will be launching a truly national campaign, working at every level of government from councils to ministers. We’ll be expanding our campaign to include more issues, and leveraging all our resources to push for change even on a small scale. We are encouraging all our members to reach out to their legislators and ensuring that listed buildings are on the agenda, and creating more awareness of our issues.
A full briefing on our campaign work in 2019 will be in the March/April edition of Listed Heritage.
