The Club was pleased to see more than a thousand responses to our owners survey last month.
The results were quite stark, with only 23% of owners saying they would buy a listed property in the present environment. The key problems owner’s pointed to were, predictably, struggles maintaining the property, the challenges of improving efficiency and the stress of navigating the planning system. While these do broadly confirm what the Club has long suspected, it is good to have clear figures demonstrating just how big these problems are. We also asked about energy efficiency works and heating systems were flagged as the biggest concern.
An in-depth analysis of the results will be published in the May/June edition of Listed Heritage.
The results will help to guide our campaign and will be presented to heritage groups and the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport as part of their policy efforts. For the first time the Club is bringing rigorous data directly to these influential groups.
