The Heritage Alliance Tax Working Group is a key advisory body to the government regarding listed buildings and tax. The Club have been a member for a number of years, and continue to pursue avenues for public support.
We have previously discussed concepts similar to the Living Cities scheme presently used in Ireland, where money spent on listed building works can offset against other taxes. The Club of course supports this kind of scheme, as it would both encourage beneficial works, and provide much needed support for private owners.
Living Cities is presently being researched by the group, and we will hear the first results from this at this quarter’s meeting on the 30th. We will of course report back with the full discussion after the meeting.
Being on this influential body which also include Historic England, emissaries from DDCMS and MHCLG as well as other prominent heritage groups is extremely important, and ensures your needs are being addressed.
