The Club’s campaign for VAT relief is continuing to build momentum in the run up to the budget. Craig Mackinlay, Chair of the APPG on listed properties, has secured a Westminster Hall debate on VAT and listed buildings.
The debate will create a formal setting to put forward the full case for VAT relief and to get a full response from the government. A responsible minister will attend the debate and will be required to give a proper answer to the points raised.
Seeing this critical issue debated in the public arena is a major step forward for our campaign, especially with the new budget within sight. There has been a rising feeling that we are close to success on VAT, and this debate will continue to keep the pressure on and force the Treasury to answer why they believe private owners should continue to fund support to listed buildings which they can never benefit from themselves.
